Share Community Program Position - 2021 State Of Emergency

Hello,

I hope you are all doing well and staying safe and healthy given the current circumstances. I am here to provide you an update regarding our position as the Share Community Team.

I have made countless inquiries both through calls and letters to numerous officials and I have finally been given some answers. I am currently not allowed to open up the program during the current state of emergency. The current restriction guidelines that I was informed on state that they are only asking grocery stores, pharmacies, and emergency medical health places to remain open. Those who do not comply will be fined.

I would like to bring your attention to the following resource, the Canada Recovery Caregiving Benefit (CRCB): https://www.canada.ca/en/revenue-agency/services/benefits/recovery-caregiving-benefit.html. This can provide an opportunity for additional funding given the state of emergency and may be worth checking out regarding your eligibility.

I am sending this out to provide some clarification regarding our stance during the current situation. I understand this is difficult for all of us, but your patience, understanding, and support has been more than appreciated. We hope that we can work together to ensure the safety and well-being of our community.

Cheers,

Carol Chayer

Program Director

Thank You Sue For Our Lovely Hairdo's!

Share Community cannot thank one of our own lovely parents, Sue Donofrio for going above and beyond this week by giving our clients COVID-19 safe haircuts!

Sue has gone above and beyond by coming all the way to our program to give our clients (and staff) some lovely haircuts! She took time out of her busy schedule, stayed late into the evening, brought in her own supplies, and did it all...FOR FREE! Sue's heart and kindness are immeasurable. She insisted on doing it for nothing more than seeing the smile on the clients' faces. Sue knows first hand what it's like when haircuts can be overwhelming for clients and their families. One of her lovely sons, Angelo, is one of our clients here and is the young man who inspired her journey to become a stylist. She is so gentle, patient, and kind. Whether it's laying on the floor or working around a wheelchair, Sue makes sure that the client is comfortable and leaves feeling confident as she was more than happy to be helping out our fellow families. She is also willing to come back anytime and we cannot be more astounded by that! She provided her own tools which she sanitized and disinfected between clients, cleaned up the space she used, and kept it separate from the other clients in order to keep everyone safe. Not only did the clients leave feeling wonderful, but the staff was also able to partake in the generous haircuts offered by Sue.

Speaking of staff, we'd like to thank the staff's joint effort in working with Sue to provide these haircuts for clients. Staff also stayed late into the evening to assist Sue with the haircuts and supported the clients through this experience. Whether it was providing distraction or comfort, staff helped ensure that clients were comfortable and not afraid. We cannot thank Sue and the staff enough for all their efforts. Everyone looked amazing and their smiles radiated throughout the program. Seeing them feel so beautiful and handsome made our nights like you wouldn't believe. We are so grateful to have such wonderful parents supporting the Share Community Program. It is through working together that we can foster true change and support for our clients.

Take a look at the pictures below for some before and afters!

*Note: some masks are removed in pictures as the clients' original masks had some fallen hair in them. Masks were promptly replaced with new, clean disposable masks. All protocols were in place to ensure this was a safe experience*

First Day Back!

Well, after about 6 months, we are so excited that we were able to welcome clients back today as we have re-opened!

Today, September 14th, was our first day back. Although there were some nerves, everyone did amazing today! The staff has been working hard to prepare the space for the safe return of clients and it was more than worth it to see our amazing clients come back. We are so proud of them for working so hard to follow the safety protocols in place during COVID. We have missed them so much and their patience as we have transitioned back has been so greatly appreciated. Although they had some nerves, they were fantastic.

Here's to our mighty return!

COVID-19 Practices & Protocols

Staff at Share Community Program have put precautions in place to ensure the health, safety, and well-being of all individuals entering our space. Please note that if you are feeling unwell, it is highly encouraged to stay home. If you are experiencing a fever, cough, and difficulty breathing, please seek medical attention.

Below you will find the protocol that all individuals (staff and clientele) will be following in order to ensure the health, safety, and well-being of everyone involved at Share Community Program.

  • Clients will be sent to the door alone. Parents, guardians, and/or personal workers are not to come down.
  • Prior to entering the building, clients will be asked to wash hands at our outdoor hand washing station and have their temperature checked by staff using a contactless infrared thermometer.
  • Upon entering, clients will also sanitize their hands at our hand sanitizing station.Clients will have the option to wear masks and/or gloves.
  • Clients will be assigned individualized washable plastic bins for their personal belongings and items at program. Clients will also have designated seats and social distancing stickers indicating the appropriate distance to stand between individuals at the program.
  • Controlled/limited access to program areas.

All staff will wash their hands outside at the outdoor hand washing station, sanitize at the hand sanitizing station, and have their temperatures checked. All staff will be donning PPE (i.e., gloves, masks). Staff will be following a rigid cleaning schedule using the appropriate and disposable cleaning tools.  Hand sanitizer will be available throughout the program.

Plans are to soft launch in September 2020, pending COVID restrictions.  We will keep you updated as best as we can.
